Edge Reports on New Xbox: No Used Games, Internet Required
Edge is reporting new details on the next Xbox system. The biggest news about the new console: internet is required to play with the system and used games will be blocked.
Games will be purchased with one-time-use activation codes, meaning the sole person who uses the code first is the only person who can play the game on their console.
While the console’s experience now fully lies with internet compatibility, physical games will still be available. Games will now be on blu-ray format for the next Microsoft console, meaning 50 gigs of space for games now.
The console holds AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz CPU, a D3D11.x 800MHz graphics solution and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. The console will also ship with a newer version of the Kinect.

My S/O’s siblings have a lot of kids and not a lot of money- almost every game they buy is used. Thanks for fucking over people who WOULD play your games- if they could damn well afford them.
Also no-internet-no-game even for something you purchase physically is beyond irritating. I hate this trend in gaming. Arrgh.
Yeah, I won’t be buying it either. I’m sure my brother will, and I’ll just have to settle for playing Halo on his console.

God, I hate this trend so much. It’s all about squeezing more money from their bitter and captive audience. I think it’s the same as textbook companies who shuffle the chapters of a textbook around and call it a “new version” so students and teachers are forced to buy new versions every three years or so. It’s total bullshit, but they must have seizures thinking about all the money that circulates through the used game market that they aren’t getting themselves. Fuckers.
The big 3 console companies hate the used game market so much. But then, the same business model is working successfully on Steam.
Is the code connected to the console too? Like, if the console breaks/gets stolen and you buy a new one, will the old game not work on it?
I hope this isn’t true and is only speculation. I had planned to invest in a system when the new XBox came out, but if this really is what is happening with the gaming industry, I think I’ll just spend my money elsewhere. It would be a shame and would only serve to scare away casual gamers and those with limited means who aren’t interested in taking that kind of risk with their money.
